Elliptical Cut

This is a cut between two shots which omits parts of an event. An elliptical cut can be used to remove unimportant action. For example, instead of filming a woman making a phone call, getting ready to leave the house, going through the front door, locking up and then walking down the street, an elliptical cut could show the end of the phone call, the woman putting on her shoes and then show her outside on the street.
